Michael Bennett is a Houston, Texas attorney with CM Law, LLP. His practice focuses on Commercial Litigation and Employee Benefits (ERISA) Law, with an emphasis on complex business disputes, investigations, and litigation involving energy, petrochemical, pharmaceutical, and other business clients.
Michael advises and represents clients in disputes involving joint operating agreements, joint venture agreements, service and supply agreements, foreign agency agreements, and employee retirement and welfare benefit plans. His employee benefits work includes matters involving ERISA-governed and non-ERISA-governed international plans. He has also handled disputes involving investments by private equity firms and overseas investors in the oil and gas industry.
Michael represents energy-sector clients in internal and governmental investigations concerning alleged accounting fraud, embezzlement, violations of the Foreign Corrupt Practices Act, and ERISA violations, as well as related civil litigation. He has defended energy, chemical, and pharmaceutical companies in environmental mass tort and product liability cases.
Before joining CM Law, Michael handled ERISA and employee benefits litigation, including the defense of employer-sponsored benefit plan terminations and self-funded employer plans against claims brought by medical providers.
Michael participated in the trial and appeal of two presidential election contests: Harry Jacobs, et al. v. Seminole County Canvassing Board, et al. and Ronald Taylor, et al. v. Martin County Canvassing Board, et al. He served as counsel for President George W. Bush and Vice President Richard Cheney in those matters.
Michael has tried numerous cases to jury verdicts and represents clients before state and federal courts and arbitration tribunals.
