Biography
Michael A. Troisi represents insurance companies nationwide in coverage litigation and other disputes involving Insurance Law, including matters that involve allegations of bad faith and claims seeking extra‑contractual damages. Based in Uniondale, New York, he is a partner at Rivkin Radler LLP and focuses his practice on advising and representing insurers in complex coverage matters.
Michael is a partner in Rivkin Radler’s Insurance Coverage and Compliance, Investigations & White Collar Practice Groups and serves on the firm’s Management Committee. His work involves a wide range of first‑party and property insurance issues, including cases involving arson and suspected fraud. He has handled the investigation and defense of many types of property insurance claims involving fraud and has taken these matters through trial.
He frequently advises insurers during the investigative stage of claims and has conducted hundreds of examinations under oath as part of claim investigations. His work often involves analyzing policy language, evaluating coverage questions, and assisting insurers as they respond to complex or disputed claims.
Michael also counsels and represents insurers on developing issues affecting the property insurance industry. He has worked on coverage questions arising from investor frauds and Ponzi schemes and has assisted national insurers with evaluating policy obligations and coverage considerations in these matters.
Following the mortgage fraud crisis, Michael has regularly provided coverage analysis on matters involving mortgagees and other lienholders, including issues related to foreclosure and a mortgagee’s potential rights under an insurance policy. In this area, he has assisted insurers in developing guidelines and procedures for handling mortgagee claims. He has also worked with insurers addressing first‑party property claims and related litigation arising from Superstorm Sandy.
Michael frequently presents seminars and educational programs for clients and insurance industry professionals on topics such as claim investigation, policy interpretation, and the handling of first‑party property insurance claims.
Before entering private practice, Michael served as a prosecutor in the Kings County District Attorney’s Office in Brooklyn, New York. In that role, he investigated and tried numerous felony and misdemeanor cases to verdict, gaining courtroom and investigative experience that informs his current Insurance Law practice.
