Q&A

Holmes Law Group, founded by Michael A. Holmes in 2019, is a Dallas-based boutique law firm blending complex business transactions and commercial litigation, with expertise from entity formation all the way through trial.  We are a one-stop-shop for businesses of all shapes and sizes, for the most-common things that a business might encounter.

What sets the firm apart:

  • Integrated transactional and litigation focus: The belief that strong drafting and litigation preparedness reinforce each other for tougher, more durable results.
  • Client-centric approach: Attorneys treat client businesses “almost as much” like their own, offering tailored, practical legal support.
  • Wide-ranging expertise: Covers commercial contracts, corporate governance, energy/oil & gas, cybersecurity/privacy, compliance, banking, employment, startups, and more.
  • Local commitment: Deep roots in Dallas—with a focus on serving the community alongside clients.
  • Recognitions: Ranked in U.S. News and Chambers USA Spotlight 2025 for Litigation: General Commercial, and acknowledged in several high-profile directories.

Common client concerns and the firm's responses include:

  • “Can you handle both transactional and litigation?” Answer: Yes—HLG’s dual strengths in drafting and advocacy ensure clients are protected from disputes while also prepared in the event one arises.
  • “Can you help startups or small businesses?” Answer: Absolutely—offered support ranges from entity formation and shareholder agreements to compliance and risk mitigation, with solutions scaled to their needs.  We can help businesses of all shapes and sizes, from start-ups to multi-billion dollar entities.
  • “How do you work on pricing?” Answer: The firm emphasizes delivering legal excellence efficiently—suggesting transparent, fair fee structures aligned with client goals, all delineated within the first initial call.

Our firm was hired to represent the interests of business-owners who had made several international purchases that were not fulfilled.  Multiple contracts and promises governed the business relationship worth several million, and despite best efforts to resolve the dispute prior to filing suit, suit was eventually necessary.  Our team was able to move efficiently and effectively to secure a judgment, and then ensure that judgment was collected in a manner which not only compensated our clients for the underlying purchases, but also their fees and expenses incurred in pursuing resolution.

Based on the firm's positioning:

  • Encouraging Business Decisions: Many times, clients come to us after they have been seriously wronged or taken advantage of, and emotions are running high.  But because reacting with emotions is rarely what’s best for your business, we encourage our clients to make business decisions rather than emotional ones.
  • Unpredictability: Even the best-drafted agreement or best-argued motion is subject to human error and bias.  Our team works with you to be adaptable in high-stakes situations, and explore all available potential resolutions.
  • Delivering top-tier service efficiently: Smaller firm model demands maximizing outcomes while maintaining cost-effectiveness and responsiveness.

Michael Holmes founded HLG after time in traditional law firms, motivated by seeing “a better way to serve clients”—more personalized, business-savvy, and community-oriented legal service.  HLG distills down what makes a great law firm into it’s most-essential components – the people and work product – and discards everything that makes law firms inefficient and expensive.  HLG is fully virtual and streamlined to be a modern business law firm for modern businesses.

  • Personal life: Michael is a Dallas native, a fourth-generation Texan, married to Kelsey, and two kids.
  • Interests: Enjoys exploring Dallas’s restaurant/food scene, the outdoors, and global travel.
  • Community involvement: Member of Lakepointe Church, Rockwall County A&M Club, National Shooting Sports Foundation.

  • Awards & recognition: Featured in Chambers USA Spotlight 2025 (Litigation: General Commercial, Tier 1), Texas Super Lawyers, U.S. New’s Best Lawyers, and D Magazine’s listings Best Lawyers.
  • Firm philosophy: “Your Business is Our Business”—a demonstration of commitment to client success, proactive advocacy, and personalized service.  We are a modern business law firm for modern businesses.
  • Broad service suite: From corporate formation to trial, we offer a wide spectrum of business law services, serving the corporate, commercial, cybersecurity, compliance, banking, employment, and energy sectors.
