Mia Laity is a Senior Associate in the Construction and Infrastructure, Commercial Litigation, Insurance, and Employment Practice Groups at Singleton Urquhart Reynolds Vogel LLP.

Mia has over a decade of experience representing clients in a myriad of hard-fought legal disputes, and advising businesses and individuals on complex legal issues. As a seasoned and versatile litigator, she has appeared at all levels of court in British Columbia, and regularly represents clients in trials (both jury and non-jury), mediations, and arbitrations. She also counsels clients on risk management, and navigating conflicts in areas such as corporate governance, contract disputes, all manner of construction issues, employment matters, and insolvency.

She specializes in construction disputes, regularly acting for owners, developers, general contractors, and engineers, throughout the course of construction and following project completion. She has managed complex disputes on large-scale infrastructure projects including pipelines, highway construction and mining projects. She also advises on builders’ liens and claims for extras and delay.

Mia also has expertise in insolvency matters, representing debtors, creditors, and insolvency trustees in bankruptcy and insolvency proceedings. This expertise enables her to advise clients in the construction industry and beyond when impacted by insolvent parties and proceedings.

Outside her busy practice, Mia also devotes time to the legal community and legal education. Mia is the current Chair of the Canadian Bar Association – British Columbia (CBA-BC) - Insolvency Section, and the past Chair of the CBA-BC Insurance and Product Liability Section. She was also a Board Member of the Vancouver Bar Association, chairing their Judges’ Luncheon and Bench and Bar Dinner Committees, and was a Board Member of the West Coast Legal Education and Action Fund for eight years. She has also been appointed to the Canadian Bar Association’s Courtroom Services Committee, volunteered with Access Pro Bono, and mentored law students and junior lawyers through various organizations.

Prior to joining the firm, Mia was a litigation associate at a large, national firm.
