Mehmet Gün

Mr. Mehmet Gün is the managing partner of Gün + Partners law firm he found in 1986 and brought to international fame for its full commercial and corporate law and intellectual property rights services. Mr. Gün, during his professional career over 30 years developed expertise in many areas of law including commercial law, corporate law, and intellectual property law. Mr. Gün is considered to be one of Turkey’s top international commercial lawyers. By many of his peers and the business community recognize him as the leading IP lawyer in Turkey. His eponymous firm is currently one of the largest international law firms in Turkey. Mr. Gün also actively participates in domestic and international seminars and conferences as a speaker, a panelist and a moderator. He currently lectures on pharmaceutical patent law at Istanbul Bilgi University and international IP law at Kemerburgaz University. Mr. Gün is very familiar with differences of common law and civil law civil proceedings and advocates for improvement of Turkish judiciary in many aspects currently for implementation of full and frank disclosure in the Turkish civil procedure. Mr. Gün is a respected member of the Turkish commercial business community. He is a member of the DEIK (Foreign Economical Relations Board of Turkey) Turkish – British Business Council Executive Committee; he is a member of Turkey’s prestigious Business NGO TÜSIAD, Turkish Industrialist and Businessmen Association actively working in the Judicial Reform Community. Mr. Gün is taking the lead to a civil initiative called Daha Iyi Yargi Hareketi – Better judiciary Initiative – currently advocating for inclusion of Full and Frank Disclosure in the Turkish dispute resolution rules to be followed by other areas for improvement. This movement is currently in the process of being organized as an NGO. Mr. Gün is also taking the lead to unite all arbitration practitioners to establish an arbitration association in Istanbul and organized the largely attended Istanbul Arbitration Center Conference on 30 November 2012 in Ankara. Mr. Gün is very familiar with the Common law and especially the UK’s dispute resolution capacity and the differences and shortcomings of Turkish Law in dispute resolution thus he advocates that Turkey follows not only Germany and France but also take lessons from the UK’s success in ensuring justice more effective than others. Mr. Gün has been working with many UK law firms throughout his professional life: he has advised and represented the Administrators of Polly Peck International Plc over 10 years, has been advising many clients in the London reinsurance market for over 20 years and has acted as co-arbitrator, expert witness or co-counsel in resolution of disputes involving both Turkish law and the English law.

Mehmet Gün is a member of the Istanbul Bar Association and speaks both English and Turkish. He acquired his LL.B from Istanbul University in 1980.
