Biography

Megan O’Neill is a solicitor in Farris LLP’s Corporate Commercial group in Vancouver, British Columbia. Her practice includes Corporate Law and Mergers and Acquisitions Law, with a focus on corporate commercial transactions, mergers and acquisitions, securities, corporate finance, and real estate matters. She advises both private and public companies across a range of industries.

Megan regularly acts for participants in the British Columbia hospitality and alcoholic beverage sectors. Her work includes structuring and negotiating winery and distillery purchase and sale transactions, as well as advising on regulatory frameworks that affect these businesses. Her recent matters include acting for second- and third-generation members of the Jackson Family in connection with acquisitions of wineries and vineyards in the Cowichan Valley on Vancouver Island, advising Empress Gin on its sale to a U.S. private equity group, and assisting with the acquisition of Dillon’s Distillers for the Mark Anthony Group. She has been involved in approximately 25 winery transactions in the Okanagan Valley over the past five years and frequently assists clients with regulatory compliance and agricultural land issues.

In addition to her corporate and mergers and acquisitions practice, Megan advises clients in the forestry industry and works with First Nations on commercial business arrangements and governance matters.

Megan serves on the Board of Directors of the Canadian Association for Food Law and Policy (CAFLP), a national not-for-profit organization focused on food law and policy. She has also completed the Level 1 and Level 2 Awards in Wine through the Wine & Spirit Education Trust (WSET), reflecting her ongoing involvement in the wine industry.

Megan earned her Juris Doctor from the University of British Columbia and was called to the British Columbia Bar in 2018. She holds a Bachelor of Science in Hotel Administration from Cornell University. Megan joined Farris LLP as a summer student in 2016, completed her articles with the firm, and became an associate in 2018.
