Maurice G. Jenkins is Principal Attorney of Jackson Lewis P.C. He is a Fellow in the American College of Trial Lawyers, widely considered the premier professional organization of preeminent trial lawyers in the United States and Canada. Lawyers must have a minimum of 15 years’ trial experience before they may be considered for Fellowship. For over 30 years Mr. Jenkins has advised and represented employers in a wide array of industries with respect to labor and employment law matters. He has defended clients against administrative claims and lawsuits across America. Mr. Jenkins is routinely called upon to advise C-Suite executives on the development and enhancement of labor and personnel strategies to enhance competitiveness, achieve legal compliance, and promote positive employee relations. Mr. Jenkins has represented employers facing union organizing efforts, and at the bargaining table as well. A former member of the American Bar Association’s Task Force on Sarbanes-Oxley (SOX) and frequent lecturer on defending against whistleblower claims, Mr. Jenkins also has extensive experience in litigating retaliation claims under SOX and other laws. He also has conducted internal investigations into claims of harassment, fraud and other wrongdoing, and he has lectured and gained significant expertise in defending (SOX) and whistleblower actions. Mr. Jenkins has litigated single, multi-plaintiff and pattern and practice claims of discrimination, hostile environment harassment, disparate impact and systemic discrimination. He also has litigated cases before the EEOC, DOL and the NLRB around the country, and has extensive experience in preventive counseling to management with respect to union avoidance and NLRB representation elections, labor issues arising from mergers and acquisitions, and business relocations. He is a recognized litigator who has first chaired jury trials; labor, and civil rights arbitrations; NLRB hearings; and state civil rights administrative cases for many Fortune 500 middle market and emerging companies. In addition, Mr. Jenkins has conducted investigations of workplace fatalities, improper conduct on the part of procurement agents, and alleged workplace harassment. He has also handled whistleblower investigations and litigation; investigated alleged financial reporting improprieties; provided assessments and advice with respect to establishing and maintaining effective employee “hotlines” and other internal reporting structures; and evaluated conflict of interest guidelines implemented by various multinational companies. An accountant before becoming a lawyer, Mr. Jenkins began his professional career as a financial and tax analyst at General Motors Corporation. After graduating from law school, he advanced to become GM's chief labor counsel, where he was responsible for NLRB matters throughout the United States, including unfair labor practices, handling salaried union organizing cases, and supporting contract negotiations. He assisted in the development of GM’s corporate-wide ADA compliance program before embarking on a career in private practice. A nationally recognized workplace law counselor and litigator, he is consistently included since 2008 in Chambers USA list of “Leaders in their Field,” Best Lawyers in America, Michigan “Super Lawyers,” and most recently in HR Executive Magazine’s “Top 100 Most Powerful Employment Lawyers" for 2011 and 2012.” Mr. Jenkins was also privileged to be recognized by Michigan Lawyers Weekly as one of 25 "Leaders in the Law" for 2012. Mr. Jenkins serves on the Board of Trustees for Michigan State University College of Law and Henry Ford Health System in West Bloomfield. Mr. Jenkins received his J.D., cum laude, from Michigan State University College of Law and he graduated with a B.A. in Accounting from Michigan State University. Mr. Jenkins also earned a Certificate, Executive Education Program in Mergers and Acquisitions, from the University of Chicago Graduate School of Business.
