Maud Rivard

Ms. Maud Rivard practises mainly in the fields of insurance law, civil liability and professional liability.

Ms. Rivard regularly represents clients before the various judicial authorities and in the dispute resolution process. She also renders opinions on insurance coverage. Known for her pragmatic approach to cases, she is able to keep the costs down and bring a case to a speedy trial or settlement, as the case may be.

From the start of her law career, Ms. Rivard has played an active role in complex multi-party cases involving vast quantities of documents in construction law, professional liability and civil liability matters. Consequently, she has developed reflexes and abilities that are conducive to efficient case management and the rapid development of a strategy aimed at limiting the costs, wherever possible.

Ms. Rivard also practises administrative law and most notably has had the opportunity to advise and represent organizations in judicial review cases before the Superior Court and the Court of Appeal.

Ms. Rivard teaches the moot court class at Université Laval, where the students must draft and plead a factum in a simulated appeal case.She is also a guest speaker at the Quebec Bar’s Advocacy Techniques Seminar held annually in Sherbrooke.

She is the author of several legal articles and publications and is a regular speaker at conferences. She is the author of the Jurisclasseur on general provisions in damage insurance and examinations on discovery, participates in the Grand Collectif – Code of Civil Procedure as well as in the book Objections to Evidence in Civil Law. She is a member of the Liaison Committee with the Court of Quebec and acts as an arbitrator in lawyers’ fee arbitrations.

Honours

In 2021, Me Maud Rivard was recognized for her practice in Professional Liability by Lexpert. She was also recognized in the prestigious legal directory The Best Lawyers in Canada 2022 for her extensive experience in insurance law and in 2024 for her practice in construction law and professional liability.
