Biography

Matthew Carrigg is an associate in Nixon Peabody’s Real Estate group. Matthew focuses his practice on various commercial and private real estate transactions. He represents borrowers and lenders, commercial real estate developers and private companies.

What do you focus on?

I focus my practice on all aspects of commercial real estate matters. I have assisted lenders, borrowers and business clients in connection with commercial real estate transactions. I have experience drafting buy-sell agreements, and reviewing and negotiating commercial leases, commercial real estate titles, surveys and traditional and special purpose entity formations. Most recently, I have represented a privately held commercial real estate developer in connection with the purchase and subsequent sale of a student housing facility and a privately held company with the acquisition of a number of entities.

Real property tax

On real property tax matters, I advise various taxpayers and not-for-profits on real estate tax appeals and other real property tax matters, including payments-in-lieu-of-tax agreements for commercial and industrial property owners, and real estate tax exemptions and tax abatements for not-for-profits and housing companies, including the assessment of affordable housing projects under Real Property Tax Law 581-a.
