Matthew V. Spero is a partner at Rivkin Radler LLP in Uniondale, New York, and a member of the firm’s Bankruptcy, Corporate, and Commercial Litigation Practice Groups. He represents debtors, creditors, creditors’ committees, lenders, principals, and landlords in business reorganizations, restructurings, acquisitions, liquidations, and out-of-court workouts. His practice includes matters before the Bankruptcy Courts for the Eastern and Southern Districts of New York.
Matt advises businesses and stakeholders across a wide range of industries, including electronics, health care, construction, plastics, garment, automotive, and factoring. His clients include retailers, manufacturers, distributors, financial institutions, insurance companies, real estate owners and developers, restaurants, physicians and medical practices, nonprofit organizations, unions, and health and welfare funds.
His practice focuses on Bankruptcy and Creditor Debtor Rights / Insolvency and Reorganization Law, as well as Litigation - Bankruptcy. Matt handles matters involving avoidance actions, breach of fiduciary duty claims, assumption and rejection of executory contracts, dischargeability of debt issues, business disputes arising in bankruptcy proceedings, and related commercial litigation matters.
Matt is a published author whose work has appeared in the Nassau Lawyer, Pratt’s Journal of Bankruptcy Law, Law360, and the Real Estate Finance Journal. He also speaks regularly at continuing legal education programs on bankruptcy, restructuring, and commercial litigation topics.
In addition to his practice, Matt provides pro bono legal services, including representation for indigent clients in landlord-tenant matters.
While attending law school, Matt was a member of the National Moot Court team.
