Matthew Rendely

Matthew Rendely is a Partner and co-lead of the Estate Litigation practice group at Loopstra Nixon LLP in Toronto, Ontario. His practice focuses on trusts and estates, including estate litigation, wills, trusts, powers of attorney, guardianship, and capacity-related disputes. Matthew represents individuals, trustees, executors, beneficiaries, attorneys for property and personal care, and financial institutions in a broad range of trusts and estates matters. He has appeared before all levels of court in Ontario and has represented clients in proceedings before the Supreme Court of Canada. Before joining Loopstra Nixon LLP, Matthew practised at a Toronto estate litigation boutique where he developed extensive experience handling complex estate, trust, and capacity disputes. Matthew has been recognized by legal industry publications and peer-reviewed directories for his work in trusts and estates litigation. He is ranked in the 2025 and 2024 Canadian Lexpert Directory for Estates & Personal Tax Planning (Litigation). He has also been recognized in Best Lawyers: Ones to Watch in Canada for Trusts and Estates (2022, 2023, and 2024) and in Best Lawyers Canada 2026. In addition, Matthew has been included in the Chambers and Partners High Net Worth Guide in the Private Wealth Disputes – Canada category from 2022 through 2025. In 2021, Matthew received the Hoffstein Book Prize from the Ontario Bar Association for contributions to the area of wills, trusts, and estates law. He currently serves as Chair of the Ontario Bar Association Elder Law Executive Committee and is also a member of the Canadian Bar Association Elder Law Executive Committee.
