Matthew Mantle is a partner in the Tax Practice Group. He concentrates primarily on state and local tax matters in Louisiana, Alabama, and on a multistate basis. Matt represents firm clients nationwide, including various Fortune 100 and Fortune 500 companies, in all areas of state and local tax throughout the Gulf South. He advises on matters related to tax and business planning, audits, administrative appeals, judicial appeals, identification and utilization of tax incentives, governmental relations, and tax legislation. He has also represented firm clients on unclaimed property matters. While he was a graduate fellow in state and local taxation for the Council on State Taxation (COST), Matt worked on matters involving state and local tax litigation at the US Supreme Court, state supreme court, and state appellate court levels. He has presented, written on, and been interviewed regarding a variety of state and local tax topics, including aspects of taxability, tax litigation, tax legislation, tax procedure, and tax research, for groups such as COST, the Institute for Professionals in Taxation (IPT), the Tax Executives Institute (TEI), Tax Analysts, Bloomberg BNA, Law360, the Southeastern Association of Tax Administrators (SEATA), the Louisiana Association of Tax Administrators (LATA), the Society of Louisiana Certified Public Accountants (LCPA), and Tulane University. Matt currently serves as an officer of the Tax Section of the Louisiana State Bar Association (LSBA). He is also a founder and editor of Cooking with SALT, a legal blog committed to providing timely insights on state and local tax developments affecting clients in taxing jurisdictions throughout the Gulf South. Matt was awarded the 2012 Institute for Professionals in Taxation National Sales Tax Article of the Year Award for an article he co-authored entitled “A Sale Alone is Not Enough: Cynthia Bridges, Secretary, Department of Revenue, State of Louisiana v. Production Operators, Inc., 2010-0905” (La. App. 4 Cir. 12/8/10). Matt was also named as an “Attorney to Watch” in Chambers USA–America's Leading Lawyers for Business in the area of Corporate/M&A: Tax.
