Matthew A. Mantle is a shareholder in Dentons Sirote's Birmingham, Alabama office. As a member of the Tax Practice group, he is part of the State and Local (Subnational) Tax team and the Tax Controversy team.

Matt is a nationally-known State and Local Tax (SALT) attorney with over a decade and a half of experience helping taxpayer clients with state and local tax planning, legislative, and audit/litigation matters in Alabama, Louisiana, Georgia, and on a multistate basis. He has represented clients nationwide, ranging from Fortune 500 companies to closely held family businesses, in all areas of state and local tax throughout the Gulf South. He advises on state and local tax matters related to tax and business planning, audits, administrative appeals, judicial appeals, identification and utilization of tax incentives, governmental relations, tax legislation, and unclaimed property matters.

Matt is a seasoned SALT litigator at all levels, ranging from initial audit review through state supreme court appeals, representing taxpayers in disputes with groups such as the Alabama Department of Revenue, the Louisiana Department of Revenue, and numerous local tax authorities in Alabama, Louisiana, Georgia, Texas, and throughout the Gulf South. He also has a great deal of experience managing complex, multi-locality tax litigation matters for taxpayer clients.

Matt has been recognized in Chambers USA in the area of Tax. He is also listed in The Best Lawyers in America® in the area of Tax Law.

Matt is a former Graduate Fellow in State and Local Taxation for the Council on State Taxation (COST), where he handled state and local tax litigation issues at the U.S. Supreme Court, state supreme court, and state appellate court levels.

Matt's extensive SALT knowledge and experience have led him to present, write on, and be interviewed regarding a wide range of state and local tax topics, including aspects of taxability, sourcing, nexus, apportionment, discrimination, tax litigation, tax legislation, tax procedure, and tax research, for groups such as COST, the Institute for Professionals in Taxation (IPT), the Tax Executives Institute (TEI), Tax Analysts, Bloomberg BNA, Law360, the Southeastern Association of Tax Administrators (SEATA), the Alabama State Bar, the Louisiana Association of Tax Administrators (LATA), the Society of Louisiana Certified Public Accountants (LCPA), the Louisiana State Bar Association (LSBA), The University of Alabama School of Law, and Tulane University.

Matt is the newest member of the Alabama State Bar Section officers corps, having recently been elected as Council for the Tax Section. He also recently served as the Chair of the Tax Section of the Louisiana State Bar Association (LSBA).
