Matthew Bilmes is engaged in a broad income tax and commercial law practice. He has developed a particular expertise in advising clients of the income tax aspects of personal, estate and family business succession planning.
Matthew has recently been involved in numerous cross-border private tax planning files, assisting clients with interests in both Canada and the United States. With his strong relationships with United States based attorneys, he confidently advises his Canadian clients on cross-border real estate acquisitions, departure planning and estate tax minimization.
Matthew’s background in business and experience working with clients in different industries has also led him to become a trusted legal advisor to clients on all types of commercial matters. He prides himself on being available to small and medium sized business owners for any questions that may rise throughout their company’s life cycle.
Matthew is a member of the Canadian Bar Association, Young Bar Association of Montreal, International Fiscal Association, Canadian Tax Foundation, Association de planification fiscale et financière (APFF) and Jewish Chamber of Commerce.
Matthew is involved in various community organizations and maintains a strong connection to both his alma matters, the McGill University Faculty of Law and Concordia’s John Molson School of Business.
