Martin Bär represents clients across the life cycle of complex commercial disputes, from pre-dispute strategy and risk mitigation to high-stakes litigation and alternative dispute resolution. His practice spans a broad spectrum of sectors, with a particular focus on banking and financial markets, real estate and construction, data protection, and directors' and officers' liability. He also regularly advises clients on internal investigations and provides support during dawn raids. Martin's approach is pragmatic and results-driven, offering clients clear, actionable advice to achieve effective and commercially favorable outcomes.
Before joining Jones Day in 2025, Martin gained extensive experience in high-profile disputes over nine years at a leading international law firm where he handled complex matters across multiple jurisdictions. His experience includes: representing an international bank in a €150 million mistrade dispute in Germany and France; advising an international bank in a CHF (Swiss franc) 320 million securities litigation; defending an international bank in mass proceedings brought by several hundred claimants involving index certificates; representing a capital markets infrastructure provider in a series of court cases in Germany and the Netherlands concerning bond certificates and a shareholder liability lawsuit over €500 million in performance and €8 billion in declaratory relief; advising a real estate asset manager in complex litigation, including a multiparty insurance dispute; representing a data center developer in a construction delay dispute exceeding €80 million; and advising an e-commerce platform in General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR)-related claims following a cyberattack.
