With over 20 years of experience in business law, Marie Laure Leclercq has comprehensive expertise in the fields of intellectual property and technology.
Ms. Leclercq’s current practice is focused on legal aspects related to IP/IT matters, including patents, trade-marks, copyright (software, Internet and entertainment law) and industrial designs. She acts for businesses and organizations that operate in various industries, including technology, manufacturing, franchising and distribution.
She has spent her entire career practising in the areas of IP/IT in major Montréal-based law firms, except for a period of three years where she was in-house counsel and Executive Vice-President for an R&D technology and software company involved in developing technology and software products for the electric utility industry and for professional training. During this period, besides handling all legal matters, her responsibilities included all facets of business management, particularly the sale and acquisition of businesses, financing, marketing and establishing partnerships, all of which contribute to her keen understanding and insight when it comes to helping entrepreneurs reach their business objectives.
Over the years, Ms. Leclercq has been assigned by Inno-centre Québec inc. to sit on the boards of several start-up high-tech companies. In addition, she has acted as Corporate Secretary of HMS Energy Inc. and Famic Technologies 2000 inc., and held the positions of Secretary, Director (as a representative of the Fonds de Solidarité du Québec) and then Chair of the Board of Directors of Roctest Ltd., a technology company manufacturing geotechnical and structural instrumentation. She is also dedicated to the advancement of the legal profession and has been very active in the Canadian Bar Association.
