Mahdi Hussein is the founder of MMH Law, a Markham litigation boutique representing businesses, business owners, investors, executives, regulated professionals, and individuals across Canada. He acts in high-stakes commercial and civil disputes involving shareholders and partners, insurance brokers and brokerages, contracts, real estate and development projects, insurance coverage, securities and class proceedings, professional liability, and regulatory matters.
MMH Law is deliberately focused so that clients work directly with Mahdi from the first strategy discussion through negotiation, motions, trial, and appeal. He gives practical advice about the strengths, risks, costs, and commercial consequences of each available path. His aim is to resolve disputes efficiently while preparing each matter for a contested hearing when litigation is necessary.
Mahdi has appeared before the Ontario Court of Justice, the Ontario Superior Court of Justice, and the Court of Appeal for Ontario, as well as administrative and regulatory bodies. He represents clients in investigations and proceedings involving the Ontario Securities Commission (OSC), the Canadian Investment Regulatory Organization (CIRO), the Registered Insurance Brokers of Ontario (RIBO), and the Financial Services Regulatory Authority of Ontario (FSRA). His work includes representing shareholders in oppression claims, proxy contests, and other corporate-control disputes, including minority and equal shareholders who have been shut out of management, denied access to corporate information, or deprived of the value of their interests.
He also advises individuals serving in political and public office on governance, ethics, regulatory obligations, investigations, and reputational matters, as well as businesses, professionals, and organizations navigating complex regulatory requirements. His reported matters span cross-border sales, shareholder and corporate disputes, condominium and real estate disputes, class proceedings, insurance coverage, and appeals.
Before founding MMH Law, Mahdi practised at a large firm on Bay Street, where his work included commercial litigation and class action defence for financial institutions and other businesses. His experience in national-firm and boutique practice informs a disciplined approach to complex disputes where the financial, professional, or reputational stakes are significant, with clear communication and close attention to each client’s commercial objectives.
Mahdi earned an Honours Bachelor of Arts with High Distinction from the University of Toronto and a Juris Doctor from Osgoode Hall Law School. He was called to the Ontario bar in 2017 and was recognized in the 2023 edition of Best Lawyers: Ones to Watch in Canada for insurance law. He is a member of the Ontario Bar Association, the Canadian Bar Association, The Advocates’ Society, and the Canadian Association of Black Lawyers.
