Mae L. Chow, KC

Mae Chow, KC, is a lawyer with Duncan Craig LLP serving clients in Edmonton and Drayton Valley, Alberta, plus surrounding rural communities. For more than 30 years, Mae has advised individuals, families, business owners, farms, and agribusinesses on practical legal solutions in the areas of real estate, business, estate planning, and estate administration.

Mae values long-term client relationships and takes the time to understand each client’s circumstances, priorities, and goals. Her lifelong connection to Drayton Valley has shaped her approach to law and given her a meaningful understanding of the people, businesses, and rural communities she serves. Mae helps clients address the legal considerations that connect their personal, family, business, and succession planning needs.

Mae advises business owners on incorporations, shareholder agreements, business sales, corporate reorganizations, ownership succession, and financing. Her Real Estate Law practice includes commercial real estate acquisitions and sales, leasing, farm and rural residential real estate matters, grazing leases, and other transactions involving rural properties.

In her Trusts and Estates practice, Mae assists clients with wills, enduring powers of attorney, personal directives, estate planning, and estate administration. She works with families following a death by providing practical guidance on the administration and distribution of estate assets.

In Mae’s own words:

“Because I grew up, developed a law practice, and raised a family in small-town rural Alberta, community connections with the people and businesses within it have always been important to me. In a smaller centre, you get to know many people, their challenges, and their successes. I provide practical and relevant legal advice informed by my roots and understanding of the community. I value the relationships I have developed with clients and other professionals. Beginning my career in general practice gave me a broad foundation for advising on personal and business legal matters while keeping each client’s needs and goals at the centre of the work.”

Mae was appointed King’s Counsel (KC) in 2024. She has lectured and served as a panel chair for the Legal Education Society of Alberta. Mae has also served on the Real Estate Practice Advisory Committee and a Conduct Panel for the Law Society of Alberta.

Mae has contributed to the Drayton Valley community through volunteer and leadership roles, including as a past chair and volunteer with the local chapter of Ducks Unlimited, past president of the Community Scholarship Trust Society, and a member of the Pembina Crisis Connection Society. She has also volunteered as a celebrity dancer and master of ceremonies for the Humans Helping Humans Housing Foundation fundraiser, Shakin’ in Drayton, and served on the organizing committee for the DV100 Race or Ride for the Drayton Valley Community Foundation. Mae was a founding member and director of the Frank Maddock High School Blue and Gold Society.

Mae and her husband, Glen, raised their daughter in a small town and remain connected to rural Alberta. She continues to work with clients through Duncan Craig LLP’s offices and serves individuals, families, businesses, and agricultural clients in Drayton Valley and surrounding areas. Outside of her legal practice, Mae enjoys fishing at Buck Lake, spending time at the family cottage, and walking the family dog.
