Q&A
After 28 years of litigating family law matters (divorce, custody, property, etc.), I decided to transition to a mediation and arbitration practice. I've mediated, arbitrated, or been appointed as a Special Master, on too many family law cases to count (more than 1000 hours) and find it to be a much more suitable practice. Given my vast experience, I bring to the table common sense solutions at an affordable price.
Do you only mediate divorce cases? No, I mediate or arbitrate all family law matters including division of property or parenting plans for parties who were not married, negotiation of pre or post nuptial agreements, grandparents issues, or even a neighborly dispute over a tree.
Is it better to mediate rather than go to court? Short answer: while there are cases which should be decided by a Court, it is normally better to have the parties decide their fate rather than a stranger.
Is mediation required in Colorado? Short answer: Absent special circumstances, almost all family law cases are required to attend mediation before litigating in court.
What other benefits are there to mediation? Short answer: Cheaper, the parties decide, quicker resolution.

Only one? Impossible!: dividing an estate worth 30 million plus; saving 25 cats from being euthanized; finding an amicable resolution for parties living across the country with children; dividing the rubber plant; the parent who could not sleep without their teddy bear; dividing Hallmark Christmas ornaments; a parenting plan for dogs; and the list goes on.
Parties are normally facing one of the most difficult times of their lives, so smoothing the transition process takes highest priority while navigating the normal surfacing of emotions.
No. Family law is one of those practice areas that you fall into and either love or hate. I enjoy working with people to help them move forward in life, so I litigated for 28 years as a divorce attorney. Now, I find my time and energy is best spent only mediating or arbitrating family law matters so I can help people move forward in a timely fashion.
Spending time with my family and dogs, travel, travel, travel, and the usual Colorado outdoors activities such as biking, walking, hiking, golfing, and oh yeah, I'd like to get back into some skiing!
I'm great at getting parties to reach a resolution! Give me a shout out at mediatedontlitigate.com or 720.550.1693.
