Biography
Luis Llamas is a partner in the Maritime Practice Group. He concentrates his practice on complex commercial litigation, admiralty disputes, trade secret and non-compete disputes, and international law. Luis co-leads the firm's Latin America working group and is the head of the firm’s Miami office. Luis is a highly respected litigator. Luis has handled cases across the United States involving marine casualties, trade secret and non-compete agreements, breach of contract, unfair trade practices and alleged violations of the Foreign Corrupt Practices Act (FCPA), among other disputes. In his maritime practice, Luis has led multiple casualty investigations and resulting litigation and routinely handles cases involving marine casualties, collision, personal injury, complex maritime products liability, commercial litigation, contract disputes, and a wide range of transactional matters. Luis counsels employers on avoiding risks and crisis management. He is regularly called upon to give advice on trade secret and unfair competition issues that arise when employees change employment and handles the litigation that often ensues from such departures. Luis is on the firm’s trade secret and non-compete team and a contributing member of the Trade Secret Insider blog. He has litigated international cases before state and federal courts as well as in arbitrations before the International Chamber of Commerce (ICC) and the International Centre for Settlement of Investment Disputes (ICSID). Luis is a sought-after speaker and panelist on topics of international law. Among other presentations, he has spoken on legal and regulatory issues related to US-Cuba relations, including changes in Export Administration Regulations administered by the Commerce Department’s Bureau of Industry and Security (BIS) and the Cuban Assets Control Regulations administered by the Treasury Department’s Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC). Luis is fluent in Spanish.
