Biography
Lou Grossman represents clients in serious, high-stakes disputes arising in the energy and petrochemical industries. His practice includes work for major domestic and international energy companies, as well as Fortune 5 to Fortune 500 corporations, national middle-market and fast-growth enterprises, and Louisiana-based privately held oil and gas businesses. Lou is based in New Orleans, Louisiana, and practices with Kean Miller.
Lou’s energy industry experience includes litigating, trying, and appealing toxic tort, environmental damage, and commercial litigation matters, including claims involving naturally occurring radioactive material and personal injury defense. His work regularly involves complex engineering and environmental issues, such as operational standards, risk assessment, and regulatory compliance. Lou approaches these matters with a practical, disciplined litigation strategy tailored to the facts and legal framework of each case, both in and out of court.
With a deep understanding of the historical development of laws and regulations that affect legacy disputes, Lou develops legal strategies that account for overlapping and evolving regulatory schemes. His approach is focused on presenting clear, well-reasoned arguments to courts and government agencies with the goal of managing and reducing client risk.
Lou maintains a broad and versatile litigation practice and is frequently asked to support trial teams across a wide range of matters. He has resolved and continues to litigate, try, and appeal cases involving railroad crossing accidents, FELA claims, complex commercial litigation, landlord-tenant disputes, food safety matters, mass tort and class actions, toxic exposure claims, product liability, and general casualty litigation. Regardless of the amount in controversy, Lou brings consistent preparation, responsiveness, and commitment to each client engagement.
A detail-oriented and analytical advocate, Lou devotes significant attention to motion and appellate practice. He is particularly adept at managing large volumes of technical and factual information and distilling it into focused legal arguments supported by key evidence.
Before returning to Louisiana and rejoining Kean Miller, Lou spent several years in Colorado as part of the in-house legal team for a national casual dining restaurant chain. In that role, he advised on a wide range of matters, including commercial litigation, general and casualty litigation, and collective and class actions under the Fair Labor Standards Act. This background complements his current practice, which includes Commercial Litigation and Litigation – Environmental, as well as food safety and other complex business disputes.
