Lisa Lifshitz is a partner in the Corporate/Commercial Group at Torkin Manes LLP in Toronto, Ontario. Her practice focuses on Information Technology Law, Privacy and Data Security Law, and Technology Law, including artificial intelligence, cybersecurity, cloud computing, digital commerce, and technology procurement.
As Chair of the firm’s Technology Group, Lisa advises clients on the preparation and negotiation of a broad range of technology agreements, including cloud computing and managed services agreements, fintech and mobile payment agreements, software licensing agreements, reseller and distribution agreements, system acquisition and development agreements, and master services agreements. She acts for both technology vendors and customers in complex domestic and cross-border transactions involving public and private sector organizations, including federal and provincial government entities.
Lisa regularly assists organizations with technology procurement initiatives and regulatory compliance matters. She also advises international companies entering the Canadian market on commercial, technology, privacy, and data governance considerations.
As Co-Chair of Torkin Manes’ AI & Innovation Group, Lisa works with Canadian and international clients on the procurement, implementation, and governance of artificial intelligence technologies and systems. Her work includes negotiating AI-related agreements, developing internal AI policies, and advising on governance, risk management, and compliance issues associated with the use of AI technologies.
Lisa is also the immediate past Chair of the firm’s Privacy, Data & Cybersecurity Group. Her Privacy and Data Security Law practice includes advising organizations on Canadian privacy and cybersecurity requirements, cross-border data transfers, privacy compliance programs, inter-company data arrangements, data processing agreements, cybersecurity policies, privacy considerations in mergers and acquisitions, breach response and remediation, and compliance with Canada’s anti-spam legislation.

She has contributed to publications including Business Law Today, Canadian Lawyer, and The SciTech Lawyer. She was co-editor and contributor to Cloud 3.0: Drafting and Negotiating Cloud Computing Agreements, published by the American Bar Association in 2019, and has also contributed to Law of Digital Content and Director's Technology Handbook: Tips and Strategies for Advising Corporate Directors.
