Lisa focuses her practice on the defense of asbestos and toxic tort personal injury matters. She is Chair of the firm's Toxic Torts & Asbestos practice group. Lisa has spent her entire legal career with Heyl Royster, starting as a law clerk and joining the firm in 1988 in the Edwardsville office. In 1992, she relocated to the Peoria office and continues to practice in both our Edwardsville and Peoria offices. She has been a partner at Heyl Royster since 1999. Lisa serves as Co-Chair of the firm's Diversity Committee.
Lisa's involvement in asbestos litigation began in 1988, just as the first Madison County cases were being defended. Over the past 24 years, she has continued to specialize in the defense of the asbestos cases, continuing to refine her practice to meet the needs of the ever-changing mix of companies finding themselves named as defendants. Because there is no single defense strategy that fits the needs of all clients, Lisa has developed a unique ability to represent a wide variety of clients, with a defense plan that meets their specific needs and addresses the issues most critical to each.
Lisa has continued to represent a group of diverse clients, including product manufacturers, equipment manufacturers, fiber suppliers, contractors and premises owners. She serves as National Counsel for a product manufacturer and assists in the coordination of their asbestos litigation throughout the country. Lisa currently serves as primary counsel and manages the asbestos litigation throughout the state of Illinois, Missouri and Wisconsin and for a group of approximately 50 individual defendants, in addition to coordinating the management of the firm's defense of those clients managed by her partners. Lisa has been designated as a Leading Lawyer in Illinois in the areas of Toxic Torts Defense and Products Liability Defense, a recognition from her peers which is only given to five percent of the lawyers in the state.
Lisa received her LL.M. in Health Law from Saint Louis University in 2002, a unique qualification among downstate Illinois attorneys. In addition to her litigation work, Lisa continues to provide counsel to our healthcare clients on matters including credentialing, licensure, medical staff issues, employment issues, Certificates of Need, EMTALA and corporate compliance issues. Lisa has been a frequent speaker on health law and risk management issues and has taught masters level courses in healthcare law for two universities in Illinois.
Lisa has concentrated her health law practice in the area of hospital representation. In this capacity, she has worked to develop and implement corporate compliance programs and numerous policies addressing operational issues. She regularly works with hospitals on medical staff and contracting issues. Lisa has also been recognized as a Leading Lawyer in the field of Heath Law.
