Biography

You often hear the saying “work your way up,” a success story Lauren Edmunds truly embodies as she started her career with Meyers & Flowers at just 19 years old as an intern. Now over half a decade later, Lauren’s determination and ambition earned her the title of Associate Attorney at Meyers & Flowers.

While working towards her bachelor’s degree at North Central College, she would spend her evenings in class and her days at Meyers & Flowers learning the personal injury litigation industry from the ground up. As she continued to grow in her career, she proved herself repeatedly, earning the position of Law Clerk while advancing to Law School.

After graduating from North Central College, Lauren continued her education at Northern Illinois University College of Law where she graduated with honors. As a law student, she served as Managing Editor of the NIU Law Review, Chief Justice of Moot Court Society as well as earned the distinguished title of Lenny B. Mandell Moot Court Competition’s Triple Crown Winner after sweeping all three categories: Champion, Best Oralist, and Best Brief. She served as the Kane County Bar Association’s Student Liaison and participated in several mock trial competitions. Outside of school, Lauren gained perspective and experience by practicing criminal law. She completed externships at the Zeke Giorgi Criminal Defense Clinic and the Kane County State’s Attorney’s Office. There, Lauren honed her litigation skills by prosecuting traffic and criminal misdemeanor cases. This taught her the value of representing victims of tragic accidents that need help navigating our complex legal system.

Lauren focuses her practice on workers’ compensation and personal injury litigation. Daughter of a sheet metal worker, Lauren was proudly raised in a union home. After experiencing first-hand what a workplace injury can do financially to a family, she dedicated her career to protecting the rights of injured workers. Advocacy and standing up for the underrepresented is the driving force behind her passion for justice.

When not devoting her time and efforts to her clients, the Streamwood, Illinois native enjoys traveling, attending concerts, and playing board games.

"I practice client-centered representation. My goal is to build mutual trust and respect with my clients as I guide them through their case, so that any resolution meets their needs and provides them with a satisfactory experience."

Case History

Cases
  • $775,000 settlement for fatal Iowa crash
ttorneys Michael Lenert and Lauren Edmunds recently settled a fatal trucking accident lawsuit for $775,000 -$275,000 above the available insurance policy limits - after the insurance company originally denied liability, claiming its insureds were not responsible for the crash. The crash occurred in Glenwood, Iowa after a semi-truck’s front tire delaminated, causing the driver to cross the median and swerve into the oncoming traffic, colliding with our client’s vehicle and causing it to roll over several times and land in a ditch on the side of the highway. Sadly, our client’s husband was tragically killed in the fatal crash. The case was not without challenges as defendants denied liability for almost two years following the crash, claiming the tire delamination was an “act of God” that neither the driver nor the company he worked were liable. The case was ultimately referred to Meyers & Flowers just two months before the status of limitations ran. After taking on the case, Mr. Lenert immediately investigated all potential claims, retained multiple experts, and filed a lawsuit in Mills County, Iowa. Through their investigative efforts, Mr. Lenert and Ms. Edmunds quickly dispelled any claim that this tragedy was an “act of God” by determining that the the tire which blew out was manufactured eleven years prior to the date of the crash and had not been properly maintained. Through extensive discovery, additional evidence was uncovered establishing the company’s failure to maintain its equipment and implement appropriate policies and procedures to educate its drivers regarding the operation and inspection of their vehicles. Ultimately, the insurance carrier tendered its $500,000.00 policy limits. This offer, however, was rejected due to its prior unreasonable denial of liability and the company’s failure to procure adequate liability insurance limits as required under the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulations. After months of protracted negotiations, attorneys Lenert and Edmunds were able to secure an additional contribution of $275,000.00 over the $500,000.00 policy limits. According to Mr. Lenert, “This tragedy was one that could have been avoided had this company simply complied with its obligations to maintain its vehicles and properly train its staff on the proper inspection and operation of its vehicles. Simply offering its inadequate policy limits after summarily rejecting my client’s claims for more than two years was unacceptable. Although this settlement fails to bring back a young husband and father, our client is hopeful that it will place other companies on notice that such conduct will not be tolerated.”
  • $412,500 Settlement for Victims Injured in Ambulance Crash
Trial Attorneys Craig D. Brown and Lauren E. Edmunds recently obtained a settlement of $412,500.00 for an elderly woman injured in an auto crash after the ambulance she was being transported in was hit by a drunk driver. In August of 2020, 79-year-old Ruth was being transported in the back of an ambulance when it was struck head-on by a drunk driver. The force of the impact caused Ruth to fall off the stretcher and hit her head on the floor of the ambulance, leading to a closed head injury. Complicating factors surrounding her head injury precipitated Ruth to suffer a subsequent stroke. The combined effects of the head injury and stroke led to permanent and severe short-term memory loss that now prevents Ruth from taking care of herself as she could prior to the collision. Tragically, three passengers, including the drunk driver, died in the car crash. Therefore, Ruth was seemingly prevented from recovering for her injuries due to the fact that the drunk driver’s insurance proceeds were limited and would likely go to the families of the deceased. After retaining Meyers & Flowers, Mr. Brown and Ms. Edmunds completed a thorough investigation of all available insurance coverage and ultimately determined that the ambulance company’s underinsured motorist coverage was Ruth’s best option for recovery of compensation. However, the ambulance company alleged that Ruth did not suffer any head injury or cognitive decline because of the collision and initially refused to make a reasonable settlement offer. In response, Mr. Brown and Ms. Edmunds retained several consulting experts, all of whom agreed not only that Ruth suffered a closed head injury, but also confirmed that Ruth’s cognitive decline was a result of the crash. After protracted settlement negotiations, our attorneys were able to secure a settlement of $412,500.00 to help Ruth pay for continued medical care. “It was my privilege and honor to help Ruth and her family navigate the legal process during these challenging times,” said Ms. Edmunds. “While this settlement will not restore Ruth’s memories or erase her pain and suffering, I am hopeful this resolution will assist Ruth’s family in providing her with the best care available.” “We could not have found better support, advocacy, and expertise than we found in the good people and excellent attorneys of Meyers & Flowers,” said Thomas, Ruth’s son. “From the point of our initial call to the moment of an outcome that exceeded our expectations, the firm consistently delivered frequent, reliable communication and genuine interest in achieving the best outcome possible. We sincerely appreciated that the firm took measures to expedite the progress of the case. As a result of their work, we can provide support to our mother beyond what we imagined.”
