As the firm’s appellate expert with nearly three decades of experience, LaDawn brings smarts, creativity, and deep legal experience to Amy Stewart Law. LaDawn is board certified in civil appellate law by the Texas Board of Legal Specialization, a prestigious credential earned by less than 1% of practicing Texas lawyers who exemplify excellence in their respective fields.
LaDawn positions her clients for success at all stages of a case. In the trial courts, she helps them win on legal issues and strategy before, during, and after trial, and ensures the record is postured for a win on appeal. In the appellate courts, she helps clients keep judgments they like and reverse judgments they don’t like. In addition to briefing appeals, LaDawn has argued in numerous courts of appeals, including the Supreme Court of Texas and the Fifth Circuit.
LaDawn repeatedly has been recognized for her excellence. She has been recognized since 2013 by The Best Lawyers in America for Appellate Practice. Thomson Reuters has listed her as a Texas Super Lawyer in appellate law every year since the award’s inception in 2003, and as a Top 50 Women Lawyer in Texas. D Magazine has named her a Best Women Lawyer in Dallas and consistently has included her on the list for the Best Lawyers in Dallas in appellate law.
LaDawn is committed to the legal profession. Her service—12 years, including 3 as Chair—on the Business volume of the State Bar Pattern Jury Charge Committee reflects her stellar reputation as well as her particular interest in unraveling complicated jury charge issues. She also has served in leadership roles for the State Bar of Texas Appellate Section as a Council Member, Chair of the Annual Meeting Committee, and Co-Chair of the Diversity Committee. LaDawn’s community involvement has included membership on several non-profit boards, such as Empowering Women as Leaders, and Hope International, an international adoption agency that assisted with the adoption of her daughter from Russia.
