Kyle P. Polozola

Now in his third decade of practice, Kyle Polozola offers substantial experience advising participants in Louisiana’s energy industry. Based in Lafayette, Louisiana, Kyle’s practice at Kean Miller spans litigation, appeals, and transactional matters, with a particular focus on Administrative / Regulatory Law, Energy Law, and Oil and Gas Law. He regularly assists clients with practical, business-oriented legal solutions that are clearly communicated, cost-conscious, and aligned with commercial objectives.

Kyle represents businesses in complex oil and gas, energy, and commercial disputes, as well as environmental and regulatory litigation. His transactional work includes mineral title examination, due diligence, and counseling related to oil and gas transactions and emerging energy initiatives, including carbon capture, utilization, and storage projects. He also advises energy companies on the acquisition and divestiture of oil and gas properties and provides ongoing corporate and business guidance.

A significant component of Kyle’s practice involves ad valorem property tax matters for local, state, national, and international clients operating in Louisiana and Texas. He serves as trial counsel for energy and corporate taxpayers before the Louisiana Tax Commission and as appellate counsel before the Board of Tax Appeals and state courts. Earlier in his career, Kyle served as lead counsel in a Louisiana Supreme Court case that resulted in a unanimous decision for his taxpayer client, an outcome that has influenced subsequent property tax appeals across the state.

Kyle is actively engaged in the development and interpretation of Louisiana energy law and regulation. He serves on the Louisiana Mineral Law Institute Advisory Council and works with a range of energy-related organizations on regulatory and policy issues affecting companies operating throughout the Gulf Coast region. He also participated in the Louisiana Risk Charge Commission, a study commission created by the Louisiana Legislature.

In March 2024, Louisiana Governor Jeff Landry appointed Kyle to the State Board of Commerce and Industry, which administers Louisiana’s statutory economic development incentive programs. In this role, he advises Louisiana Economic Development on applications and policy matters related to programs such as Enterprise Zone, Industrial Tax Exemption, Quality Jobs, and Restoration Tax Abatement.
