Biography

Kim Tyson is the founder of K. Tyson Law, PLLC in Charlotte, North Carolina. Kim represents clients nationwide in Federal Tax matters, focusing on administrative disputes with the IRS, litigation and litigation support, civil tax penalties, and charitable giving. Kim spent more than 20 years at the IRS, where she advised revenue agents in examinations of Fortune 20 companies and before IRS Appeals and supervising significant litigation in complex tax matters. While at the IRS, Kim was recognized as “Attorney of the Year” among IRS attorneys nationwide and recipient of the Treasury Office of General Counsel Outstanding Litigation Team, among other awards. Kim is also a fellow of the American College of Tax Counsel, which recognizes leading members of the tax bar who have made significant contributions to the understanding and improvement of the tax system.

Kim advises individuals, businesses, and nonprofit organizations on a wide range of federal tax issues, including IRS audits, administrative proceedings, and litigation-related matters. Her practice also includes advisory services related to charitable giving and conservation easements. She is a legal writer and frequent contributor to industry publications, where she discusses developments in tax law, IRS procedures, and civil tax penalties.

In addition to representing clients throughout the United States, Kim regularly publishes articles for the K. Tyson Law blog, providing insight on Tax Law issues and IRS controversy matters affecting taxpayers and organizations. Kim also created the North Carolina Bar Association Calendar Call Program, for attorneys to volunteer to assist pro se taxpayers at the call of the calendar of U.S. Tax Court sessions in North and South Carolina.
