Biography

Kevin Curry is an estate, wealth, and business planning attorney at Kean Miller in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. He advises individuals, families, and privately held and family-owned businesses on estate planning, business succession planning, federal gift and estate tax planning, probate, and nonprofit law and administration. His practice includes counseling clients on federal income tax matters affecting partnerships, limited liability companies, and corporations, particularly in connection with sales or transfers of family businesses as part of long-term succession planning. Kevin works closely with clients to integrate business succession, personal estate planning, and charitable giving into coordinated and practical plans.

Kevin focuses his practice on Tax Law and Trusts and Estates, and he is Board Certified in Tax Law and in Estate Planning and Administration by the Louisiana Board of Legal Specialization. His work is informed by a detailed understanding of the laws and regulations affecting multi-generational planning and asset preservation.

He regularly assists clients with planning for the continuity of family-owned companies, developing generational transition strategies, and aligning business objectives with personal and family goals. Kevin advises on a wide range of business exit and succession planning matters, including federal income tax considerations related to third-party sales and intra-family transfer structures. His experience includes recapitalization of closely held corporations, family limited partnerships and limited liability companies, and the preparation and implementation of buy-sell agreements.

In addition, Kevin represents executors, trustees, and other fiduciaries in estate and trust administration. He guides clients through the probate process, prepares and reviews estate and trust tax returns, and helps address and manage potential disputes among beneficiaries. His approach emphasizes clear communication and thoughtful planning at each stage of administration.

Kevin also advises clients on charitable planning and nonprofit matters. He assists with the formation and operation of tax-advantaged and not-for-profit entities, including 501(c)(3) organizations and private foundations, to help clients pursue philanthropic goals. His work includes counseling on the tax implications of gifts and advising trustees and boards of directors of nonprofit organizations on federal tax compliance and governance issues.

Throughout his practice, Kevin is known for his attention to detail, practical judgment, and ability to explain complex legal and tax concepts in a clear and understandable manner.
