Biography
Kelvin is a Melbourne-based lawyer with Align Law. He has extensive experience representing clients in complex commercial disputes and proceedings before Australian courts, including the Supreme Court of Victoria and the Federal Court of Australia.
His practice focuses on dispute resolution, including Alternative Dispute Resolution, and he regularly assists clients with both litigated and unlitigated matters. Kelvin works closely with businesses and individuals to manage disputes from early strategy and negotiation through to mediation, arbitration, and trial. He has experience coordinating all phases of proceedings, including hearings conducted in person and through virtual platforms.
Before joining Align Law, Kelvin worked in the Singapore office of an international law firm. During that time, he was involved in international arbitration matters conducted under LMAA, ICC, SIAC, and UNCITRAL rules. His work included disputes in the energy, commodities, and shipping sectors, providing him with insight into cross-border commercial disputes and arbitration processes.
Kelvin is admitted to practice in the Supreme Court of Victoria and the High Court of Australia. He holds a Bachelor of Laws, a Bachelor of Arts, and a Master of Laws (LLM) from the University of Melbourne.

- Defending a landowner in Supreme Court proceedings concerning the sale of land valued at $81.25 million, involving allegations of wrongful forfeiture of deposit and instalment payments and issues relating to whether contractual default provisions constituted a penalty.
- Advising clients on debt recovery and insolvency matters, including winding up and bankruptcy proceedings and claims involving voidable transactions such as unfair preferences, unreasonable director‑related transactions, and loan recoveries.
- Acting in substantial building defect disputes, including claims brought by owners corporations and multiple lot owners concerning defective works and alleged breaches of statutory warranties under the Domestic Building Contracts Act 1995.
- Representing taxpayers in Federal Court proceedings against the Australian Taxation Office involving objections to assessments relating to capital gains arising from the sale of Victorian land valued at $30 million.
- Acting for taxpayers in land tax appeals against the State Revenue Office in proceedings before VCAT and the Supreme Court of Victoria.
- Representing a global commodities trading company in a dispute with a Sri Lankan state enterprise concerning the sale and purchase of low sulphur fuel oil and issues relating to late delivery, with arbitration seated in Singapore under the UNCITRAL Rules.
- Acting for an international soft commodities trading company in a charterparty dispute with ship owners concerning off‑hire issues arising at Chittagong port, Bangladesh, with arbitration seated in London under LMAA Rules.
