Kayla Kwinter is a partner in the Litigation Group and Co-Chair of the Construction Law Group at Torkin Manes LLP in Toronto, Ontario. She advises participants across the construction industry at every stage of a project, including drafting and negotiating contracts, addressing issues that arise during construction, and representing clients in litigation and dispute resolution matters.
Kayla’s Construction Law practice includes acting for real estate developers, general contractors, subcontractors, suppliers, architects, engineers, and public sector owners, including municipalities. She provides practical and strategic legal counsel on a wide range of construction-related matters, with a focus on helping clients manage risk, protect their business interests, and resolve disputes efficiently.
Her litigation practice includes complex construction disputes involving lien claims, breach of contract matters, delay claims, deficiencies, procurement issues, and other commercial construction matters. Kayla regularly appears before Judges and Associate Judges of the Ontario Superior Court of Justice, Construction Lien Associate Judges, and the Ontario Court of Appeal.
Kayla has significant experience advising clients on matters involving the Construction Act and works closely with clients to navigate the legal and practical considerations that arise throughout the lifecycle of construction projects.
In addition to her legal practice, Kayla previously served on the Ontario Bar Association’s Construction and Infrastructure Law Executive from 2018 to 2021. At Torkin Manes LLP, she is Chair of Women’s Leadership and Business Development. She has also been recognized in legal publications including the Canadian Legal Lexpert Directory and The Best Lawyers in Canada.
