Kay Leung is Co-Chair of the Private Client Services and Tax Groups at Torkin Manes LLP in Toronto, Ontario. Her practice focuses on Corporate Law, Tax Law, and Trusts and Estates, with an emphasis on corporate reorganizations, cross-border transactions, private business matters, personal tax planning, and estate and succession planning. Kay advises private companies, business owners, and high net worth families on tax-efficient strategies designed to support their business and personal objectives.
Kay regularly assists clients with domestic and international tax planning matters, including transactions involving the Asia-Pacific region. Fluent in Cantonese and familiar with the cultural and business considerations that can arise in cross-border matters, she works closely with clients to develop practical and business-focused solutions tailored to their circumstances. She also collaborates with accountants, financial advisors, and other professional advisors to help clients address complex tax and succession planning needs in a coordinated manner.
In her Trusts and Estates practice, Kay advises individuals and families on estate planning, wealth preservation, and business succession matters. She has extensive experience helping families navigate intergenerational planning considerations and structuring succession plans for privately held businesses.
In addition to her client work, Kay is actively involved in the legal and tax community. She mentors developing lawyers and frequently writes and speaks on taxation and private client matters for professional publications, seminars, and conferences. Kay also serves on the Editorial Board of Taxes & Wealth Management and is a member of the C.D. Howe Institute’s Fiscal & Tax Competitiveness Council.
