Kathleen Wills

Kathleen Wills is an experienced intellectual property attorney who advises and represents clients in complex IP disputes, with a practice spanning patent, copyright, trademark, and technology-focused matters. Recognized by Best Lawyers for Intellectual Property Law, Kathleen brings a strategic, litigation-tested perspective to helping clients protect and enforce valuable intellectual property rights.

Based in Washington, D.C., Kathleen has handled intellectual property litigation at nearly every stage, including case strategy, discovery, trial, and appeal, as well as patent prosecution matters from intake to filing. She is a key member of the O+Z team representing leading news publishers, including Condé Nast, The Atlantic, and Vox, in a copyright and trademark infringement action against artificial intelligence company Cohere involving the alleged unauthorized use and copying of publishers’ articles and brand names.

Before joining O+Z, Kathleen practiced at Perkins Coie LLP and Sterne, Kessler, Goldstein & Fox PLLC in Washington, D.C., where she represented clients in complex patent litigation and trademark matters. She also clerked for Judge Jimmie V. Reyna of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit and gained additional experience through internships with the U.S. Court of Federal Claims and the U.S. International Trade Commission.

Kathleen earned her J.D. from George Mason University, where she served as President of the Trial Advocacy Association and was a member of the Civil Rights Law Journal. She also holds a B.S. in Neuroscience from George Mason University’s Honors College and previously worked in industry at the National Institutes of Health.
