Dr. Kai Rüting is a partner at Vossius & Partner Patentanwälte Rechtsanwälte mbB in Düsseldorf. Admitted as an attorney in 2005 and a partner of the firm since 2015, he advises clients on matters involving Intellectual Property Law, with a focus on patent infringement litigation, technology-related arbitration, and licensing disputes. His work frequently involves national and cross-border patent litigation as well as strategic issues concerning the enforcement of intellectual property rights in Europe.
Dr. Rüting has extensive experience representing companies in complex patent disputes across a range of industries, including standard-related patents, electronics, medical technology, chemistry, and life sciences. He regularly works with international clients on disputes and enforcement strategies involving European patent systems and coordinated multi‑jurisdictional matters.
He completed his first and second German state legal examinations in Augsburg and Munich in 2002 and 2004. He then earned an LL.M. in Intellectual Property from Boston University in 2005. His doctoral research examined the validity of restrictions in software contracts under German and U.S. patent and copyright law.
Dr. Rüting publishes and lectures on developments in patent law and procedural law. He is a co-author of the commentary “Cepl/Voß, Prozesskommentar zum Gewerblichen Rechtsschutz,” a publication addressing German procedural law in intellectual property matters, with the second edition released in 2018.
Legal directories and industry publications have recognized his work in patent litigation and intellectual property disputes. Before joining Vossius & Partner in Düsseldorf, Dr. Rüting worked with the patent litigation team of an international law firm, where he represented clients in intellectual property disputes involving complex technologies.
