Justyna Waxman is a partner in the Family Law Group at Torkin Manes LLP in Toronto, Ontario. Her practice encompasses all areas of family law, including property division, child and spousal support, domestic contracts, parenting disputes and other complex family law matters. She represents clients through negotiation, mediation, arbitration and litigation, with a focus on practical and thoughtful resolutions tailored to each client’s circumstances.
Justyna regularly appears before the Ontario Superior Court of Justice and the Ontario Court of Justice and has acted as counsel on appeals before the Superior Court of Justice, Divisional Court and the Court of Appeal for Ontario. Clients value her strategic approach, responsiveness and commitment to understanding the personal and financial issues that often accompany family law disputes. She is known for working to resolve conflict constructively while remaining a strong advocate when litigation is necessary.
Recognizing that family law matters can be both legally and emotionally complex, Justyna approaches each file with careful attention to her clients’ goals and priorities. She assists individuals and families with a wide range of issues, including parenting arrangements, support obligations, property-related disputes and domestic agreements.
In addition to her legal practice, Justyna is actively involved in the legal community and regularly contributes to family law education and professional development initiatives. Her writing has appeared in publications including The Lawyers Daily, the OBA Family Law Section’s Matrimonial Affairs newsletter and the OBA Young Lawyers Division newsletter, where she has written about developments in family law and issues affecting legal practice.
From 2018 to 2022, Justyna served as editor-in-chief of Money and Family Law, a publication focused on family law, estates, trusts and tax planning. She also served for four consecutive years as an elected member of the Ontario Bar Association Family Law Executive, contributing to committees and initiatives within the family law bar. In 2024, she co-organized and presented at the Ontario Legal Conference, Family, Estates and Real Estate Law.
Justyna is committed to mentorship and community involvement. She mentors law students and junior lawyers through formal and informal programs, including Torkin Manes LLP’s mentorship initiatives, the Western Law Alumni Mentorship Program and the Osgoode Hall Law School Black Law Students Association Mentorship Program.
As part of her family law practice, Justyna offers limited scope retainers and legal coaching services for individuals seeking targeted legal guidance. She also volunteers with the Pro Bono Students Canada Family Justice Centre, helping individuals in Ontario facing family law issues who may not qualify for legal aid or cannot afford ongoing legal representation.
