He is founding and managing partner at Rivera & Asociados, and specializes in Insolvency Law (Reorganization Procedure, Bankruptcy, Debt Restructuring and Pre-pack Agreements), International and Domestic Commercial Arbitration, Complex Litigation, Corporate Law, Banking Law and Private Law. He graduated in 1970 (obtaining the Gold Medal) and obtained his Ph.D in Jurisprudence in 1974 at the Facultad de Derecho de la Universidad del Salvador.

Before starting his private practice, he worked as First Instance Judge in Commercial Matters (1978-1982), Judge of the Federal Court of Appeals in Commercial Matters (1982-1985) and partner at Héctor Alegria's law firm.

He has extensive activity as an arbitrator in domestic and international cases. He has been appointed arbitrator in more than 30 cases that developed in accordance with the Arbitration Rules of the International Chamber of Commerce (ICC), the United Nations Commission on International Trade Law (UNCITRAL), the Stock Exchange of Buenos Aires and of the Chamber of Commerce of the United States in Argentina.

He has had a significant legislative activity. He is co-author of the Business Reorganization and Insolvency Law of 1994 (Law No. 24,522). He also cooperated with the Ministry of Economy in drafting the bill for the Construction Finance Law, enacted as Law No. 24,441, which introduced the trust (fideicomiso) and leasing in Argentina’s legal framework. He was member of the commission designated by Decrete PEN 685/95 to study the reform of the Civil Code. He was also appointed to advise the Ministry of Economy in drafting a partial reform to the Business Reorganization and Insolvency Law; which introduced “prepackaged agreements” (Acuerdo Preventivo Extrajudicial – APE) in Argentina enacted in Law 24,589.

He is Professor of Civil Law at the Facultad de Derecho de la Universidad de Buenos Aires (since 1984) and Professor of Contract Law at Facultad de Derecho de la Universidad de San Andrés. He has participated as lecturer in over three hundred conferences across the world.

He is author of several books, among them Arbitraje comercial internacional y doméstico, Buenos Aires : Lexis Nexis (two editions, most recent in2014); Instituciones de Derecho Civil - Parte General, Buenos Aires : Abeledo Perrot (awarded as the best legal book published in the 1989-1993 period, with the Premio Academia Nacional de Derecho it has six editions, the most recent in 2014); Reformas al derecho privado. Ley 24.441; Estudios de Derecho Privado - 1984-2005; Instituciones de Derecho Concursal, Buenos Aires : Editorial La Ley (two editions, most recent in2014). He has written more than two hundred articles on published in specialized publications both in Argentina and other countries

He is a regular member of the Academia Nacional de Derecho de Buenos Aires as of November 1999, the Academia Peruana de Derecho, the International Academy of Comparative Law, the Colegio de Abogados de la Ciudad de Buenos Aires, the International Bar Association, the UNIDROIT, the International Academy of Trial Lawyers, and ex President of the Asociación Argentina de Derecho Comparado. Also, he is member of the ICC Latin America Group and member of the Capítulo Rioplatense del Club Español del Arbitraje. Currently he has been appointed as conjuez of the National Supreme Court by decree 1018/2018.
