Judith E. "Judy" Posner

Judy is a partner of the Firm and one of California’s most effective appellate practitioners. First certified as a specialist in appellate law more than 25 years ago, and with B&S since 2015, Judy has focused her career solely on appellate practice for three decades, both in private practice at major law firms and in the appellate courts. Having served as a law clerk at the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit and spent more than 11 years as a senior judicial attorney at the California Court of Appeal, Judy brings her keen understanding of the appellate courts’ decision-making process to guide her clients.

As a generalist with expertise in civil practice and procedure, Judy represents clients in a wide variety of complex appellate matters, including employment, contracts, personal injury, probate, real estate, family law and arbitration. Judy excels in handling all types of appeals, writ proceedings, trial consultations, and post-trial motions and appears before the California Supreme Court, the California Courts of Appeal and the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit. The breadth and depth of her legal expertise, combined with her meticulous approach to representing clients, has made her a top choice for clients and trial attorneys seeking appellate representation and consultation.

Judy has been consistently recognized as the best of the best among her peers, and is a member and officer of the California Academy of Appellate Lawyers, an election-only organization devoted to excellence in appellate practice. She regularly authors articles and lectures on appellate practice and procedure.

Outside of her legal practice, Judy remains involved in the community, serving as a mentor for students at UCLA School of Law and working with The Appellate Project. She is also a member of UCLA’s Bruin Professionals Alumni Club and the Women Lawyers Association of Los Angeles.
