Joshua P. Astin

Josh specializes in U.S. and foreign patent preparation and prosecution for a variety of technologies including tissue engineering, stem cells, implantable medical devices, and genetic sequence listings. He assists clients in evaluating IP coverage, protecting core IP assets, domestic and international patent prosecution, and preparing infringement, non-infringement, freedom to operate, and validity opinions. Josh’s clients include health science and medical device companies, retail businesses, as well as start-up companies.

In addition, Josh advises clients on intellectual property strategy, overall intellectual property portfolio management and, IP valuations in transactional matters. Josh has counseled clients on the selection, clearance, maintenance, licensing, and enforcement of their trademarks. Josh understands the science behind clients’ technologies. He utilizes his Master’s Degree in Biotechnology and relevant experience as a medical technologist at a medical reference laboratory to provide the practical advice clients seek.

When out of the office, Josh can be found playing guitar, hiking, or losing golf balls.
