Josh Mandryk is a fighter for workers’ rights. From union organizing law to employment class actions to collective bargaining and grievance arbitration, Josh is proud to help advance the rights of working people day in and day out.

Josh prides himself in being an organizer’s lawyer. He understands the demanding nature of union organizing work, and always aims to work as hard as the organizers he’s assisting. When organizers need strategic advice or guidance on the law of organizing, Josh is only a call away.

If an employer fires a union supporter or threatens workers during an organizing campaign, Josh will take all steps available to make things right. And when it’s time to file an application for certification, whenever that may be, Josh is always ready – seriously, he even once filed an application for certification on Christmas Eve.

In his general labour law practice, Josh acts for unions with respect to grievance arbitration, internal union affairs and collective bargaining matters. Josh also regularly acts for unions in public policy consultations and law reform initiatives.

In his class actions practice, Josh helps groups of non-unionized workers join together to enforce their rights at work. Josh has helped achieve multi-million dollar settlements for classes of employees including security guards, travel agents, and personal trainers and other fitness workers. Whether it’s employee misclassification, wage theft or unpaid overtime, Josh helps workers use class actions as a tool to fight for what they deserve.

Prior to joining the firm, Josh was actively involved in the fight for interns’ rights in past roles with the Canadian Intern Association and Students Against Unpaid Internship Scams. During his tenure as the Executive Director of the Canadian Intern Association the organization published the Canadian Intern Rights Guide, a union-made know-your-rights guide for interns and students which was distributed to college and university campuses across the country. He summered and articled at the firm before his call to the Bar in 2015.

When he’s not fighting the bosses, Josh is shaking off the ring rust at a Toronto boxing gym. He is a past winner of the Brampton Cup, the Arnie Boehm Tournament and the Ray McGibbons Gloves. He might even get back in the ring – just don’t tell his mother yet.
