Joseph Caneco is an attorney in Fishman Haygood’s Litigation Section. He works in the bankruptcy and restructuring practice group and concentrates on debtor and creditor rights. Before joining Fishman Haygood, Joseph was an attorney at two nationally recognized firms headquartered in New York City.

Joseph has experience representing debtors, creditors’ committees, secured lenders, general unsecured creditors, and trustees before U.S. Bankruptcy and State Courts, as well as in connection with out-of-court transactions. He is licensed to practice law in Louisiana, New York, and New Jersey, and is admitted to practice before the Fifth Circuit Court of Appeals and U.S. District and Bankruptcy Courts for the Eastern, Middle, and Western Districts of Louisiana, the Southern and Eastern Districts of New York, and the District of New Jersey.

Joseph’s current caseload includes being part of the Fishman Haygood bankruptcy team chosen to represent plant-based food company Atlantic Natural Foods in its chapter 11 bankruptcy case and the sale of substantially all of its assets. The case is pending before the Hon. Meredith S. Grabill in the United States Bankruptcy Court for the Eastern District of Louisiana (New Orleans). This year, Joseph also represented FCA Construction LLC, a regional construction, roofing, and disaster recovery contractor, in its subchapter V, chapter 11 case (also before Judge Grabill) which resulted in a confirmed plan of reorganization.

Joseph is also involved in several professional organizations. He is a member of the American Bankruptcy Institute, Turnaround Management Association, and the Federal Bar Association.

Joseph is recognized as a Super Lawyers “Rising Star” in Bankruptcy and Creditor Debtor Rights.

He received his law degree, magna cum laude, from Seton Hall University School of Law and was inducted into the Order of the Coif. Joseph later received his Master of Laws in Taxation from Georgetown University Law Center, where he was on the Dean’s List.

Prior to law school, Joseph served in a variety of squadron divisional leadership roles as a Naval Flight Officer, flying carrier-based tactical aircraft and deploying in support of combat operations.
