Biography

Building on his strong background in appellate law, John Moore’s practice focuses on complex civil litigation and white-collar criminal defense in both state and federal courts.

John has appeared as the lead attorney in high-stakes cases before the United States Supreme Court, the Second Circuit, the New York Court of Appeals, and the New York State Appellate Divisions. His cases include defining the elements of malicious prosecution claims brought against police officers, appealing the dismissal of New York City’s lawsuit against major oil companies for climate change-related damages, defending diversity-increasing measures in the City’s specialized high schools, and interpreting the public employee pension statutes. In these and other cases, John has gone toe-to-toe with some of the most accomplished advocates in the country.

John’s legal scholarship has been cited in the New Yorker and law reviews across the country. He is also a co-author of the monthly EDNY Roundup column that appears in the New York Law Journal.

Before joining Schlam Stone & Dolan, LLP, John worked in the Appeals Division of the New York City Law Department. There, he briefed and argued more than 70 appeals in state and federal courts.
