John J. Rosenberg is a partner at Rosenberg, Giger & Perala PC in New York, New York, and brings nearly four decades of litigation experience to his practice. He earned a B.A. in Music, with a concentration in Ethnomusicology, from Brown University and graduated summa cum laude and first in his class from Boston University School of Law in 1979. After law school, Mr. Rosenberg served as a law clerk to the Honorable Levin H. Campbell of the United States Court of Appeals for the First Circuit. He was subsequently selected for the United States Department of Justice Honors Program in the Criminal Division. In 1981, Mr. Rosenberg was appointed an Assistant United States Attorney for the Eastern District of Pennsylvania, where he gained substantial courtroom and trial experience.
After leaving the United States Attorney’s Office in 1984, Mr. Rosenberg entered private practice and has since devoted his career to commercial, business, and entertainment litigation. For more than thirty years, he has represented clients in complex disputes involving the entertainment, media, and business sectors. Prior to co-founding Rosenberg & Giger in 2007, he served as Chairman of the Entertainment and Media Litigation Group at Sullivan & Worcester LLP.
Mr. Rosenberg’s practice includes Entertainment Law – Motion Pictures and Television and Entertainment Law – Music. He represents recording and performing artists, producers, managers, talent agencies, concert promoters, music publishers, record labels, and other participants in the music industry. His work in film and television matters includes representing directors, producers, and content creators in litigation arising from production, distribution, and related business issues. He has been named a New York Super Lawyers honoree each year since 2007 in the entertainment field and has been included in The Best Lawyers in America.
In addition to his entertainment law practice, Mr. Rosenberg maintains a national commercial and business litigation practice, representing individuals, entrepreneurs, and companies across a broad range of industries. He has tried cases in both federal and state courts in jurisdictions throughout the United States. Outside the courtroom, Mr. Rosenberg is an accomplished musician who has appeared on Bo Diddley’s Grammy-nominated album Man Amongst Men and the Mighty Mighty Bosstones’ platinum-selling album Let’s Face It. He also performed as the guitarist in the house band for the Saturday Night Live 40th Anniversary After Party, backing artists including Elvis Costello, Michael Bolton, and Prince.
