John Kosolowski is counsel with Duncan Craig LLP in Edmonton, Alberta. His practice focuses on Corporate Law, corporate commercial matters and financing, with a particular focus on the agriculture and First Nations business sectors. He also advises clients on expropriation and surface rights matters.
As a former leader of the firm’s agribusiness practice group, John has advised clients on a broad range of legal matters, including business structures, financing, regulatory compliance, land rights, farm succession and estate planning.
John has represented clients before quasi-judicial tribunals and has acted as an arbitrator, primarily in agricultural matters. He completed the Alberta Arbitration and Mediation Society’s course, Arbitration: The Law and Practice, in 1995. In 2014, he was appointed as a member of the Marketing of Agricultural Products Act Appeal Tribunal. The Appeal Tribunal hears appeals of orders, directions and decisions made by agricultural marketing boards and commissions, as set out in the Marketing of Agricultural Products Act and the Review and Appeal Regulation. John was appointed Chair of the Appeal Tribunal in 2017.
John also represents clients before the Alberta Surface Rights Board and the Land Compensation Board.
John was appointed King’s Counsel in 2014 in recognition of his contributions to the legal profession and the community. He has also received the Chartered Arbitrator designation from the ADR Institute of Canada. In 2019, John was recognized by his peers in The Best Lawyers in Canada for Corporate Law.
