Joel Morales is an associate at OKT’s Toronto office. He is a member of Cowichan Tribes First Nation, located on Vancouver Island, British Columbia.
Joel attended the University of Ottawa for law school where he participated in the Kawaskimhon Moot. He also participated in Osgoode Hall’s Intensive Program on Lands, Resources, and Governance where he completed a placement with the Maya Leaders Alliance in Belize.
Joel articled at a legal aid clinic in Toronto that focused on serving the city’s Indigenous population.
Joel provides legal advice on governance and employment matters to First Nations and Indigenous organizations. He advises clients on a range of employment and human rights matters. He also supports clients with exercising their jurisdiction in child welfare and their development of child and family laws.
Joel has appeared before the Ontario Superior Court of Justice, the Federal Court, and the Ontario Human Rights Tribunal.
Joel taught as a tutor at the Lincoln Alexander School of Law in the first year Indigenous and Aboriginal Law class.
Joel is member of the bar in Ontario and the Northwest Territories.
