Joe Spelliscy is a partner in our Litigation practice group with a focus on Insurance Defence, Professional Negligence, Banking and General Commercial Disputes. This includes Personal Injury Defence, E & O defence work, Professional Disciplinary Matters, Coverage Opinions, Fraudulent and Counterfeit Actions, S. 437 Bank Act Matters, Contractual Breaches, Fiduciary Duties, Oil Field Pipeline Failures, Large Fire and Construction Losses and Substantial Real Estate Litigation. Joe's practice also includes creditor insurance and accidental death claims.
Joe has conducted numerous trials and Applications in our Court of Queen's Bench in addition to a number of appearances in Alberta's Court of Appeal. Joe is also a strong advocate of Alternative Dispute Resolution. He regularly represents clients in Judicial Dispute Resolutions, run by a Court of Queen's Bench Justice and Professional Mediations. While these have been mostly conducted in Alberta, Joe has also appeared and represented clients in Saskatchewan and Manitoba.
Before returning to Law School in 1989, Joe worked for nearly five years in Alberta's Oil and Gas industry. Upon graduating from the University of Alberta's Law Program, Joe articled at Duncan Craig LLP and became a partner in 2000. He is the Co-Chair of Associate Development, Co-Chair of the Insurance and Risk Management Group, the former Chair of the firm's Articling Committee, has presented at education seminars, and is a Director of the St. Thomas More Lawyer's Guild.
Joe continues to volunteer his time and assistance to local charities and remains active in his community. He is currently Co-Chair of the Catholic Social Services 2015 Sign of Hope Campaign.
