Jess W. Hoeme

Jess Hoeme concentrates his practice in criminal defense—representing individuals and organizations during the investigation and prosecution of criminal charges in the municipal, state, and federal courts of Kansas in cases ranging from domestic violence, DUI, and murder to white-collar crimes. He simultaneously maintains a distinguished practice representing Kansas law enforcement officers and agencies in investigations and matters of professional affairs.

Jess defends people all over the state of Kansas. And we mean all. over. the state. He has represented clients in 85 of Kansas’s 105 counties and is determined to go to all 105.

Jess loves a challenge and never backs down from a fight. Over the course of his legal career, Jess has earned a reputation as a tenacious advocate whose dogged persistence gets the job done. Despite his professional grit, however, his clients and colleagues will tell you he’s one of the nicest people you’ll ever meet.

Jess’s breadth of experience includes five years as a prosecutor—four as Mitchell County Attorney, followed by a term as the lead narcotics prosecutor for the Shawnee County District Attorney’s Office. During his time as a prosecutor, Jess served as an instructor for the Kansas Narcotics Officers’ Association’s Top Gun school and the Kansas County & District Attorneys Association. He taught a course on trial advocacy skills at the National Advocacy Center and presented lectures on “Managing the Complex Drug Case” as an Instructor for the National District Attorneys Association. Jess has been using the knowledge gained from this experience to the benefit of criminal defendants ever since JHC coaxed him out of government work in 2011.
