Biography

Jeremy acts for contractors, subcontractors, owners, municipalities and other public bodies, as well as employers and employees.

Jeremy’s practice focuses on Construction Law, assisting contractors, subcontractors, owners, municipalities, and other public bodies in a broad range of matters, from dispute resolution to solicitor work.

Jeremy teaches construction law at the University of Alberta Faculty of Law (since 2015) and regularly presents at seminars and courses for various educational and construction industry groups. He is also a Fellow of the Canadian College of Construction Lawyers.

His construction dispute resolution experience includes navigating complex litigation and arbitration matters. He has assisted clients in resolving disputes relating to liens, bonds, delays, changes, product liability, and other issues.

Jeremy also has an active solicitor’s practice, drafting, reviewing and negotiating contracts and documents, including for oil and gas projects, public infrastructure projects, and commercial and industrial construction projects.

In addition to his construction-focused work, Jeremy also carries on a general dispute resolution practice, advising clients on a broad range of matters, including employment and human resource issues.

Jeremy is a trained mediator and enjoys acting as a neutral, assisting parties as they attempt to resolve disputes without the need for the full litigation or arbitration process.

Solution-oriented, Jeremy brings a practical sensibility in guiding clients and parties to a sound result. While he has appeared before all levels of Court in Alberta, Jeremy understands the value of resolving matters without proceeding to a full trial, when possible. In his experience this approach reduces the cost, the timeline, and the toll that disputes can take on parties.

Jeremy is a true collaborator and a sought-after mentor in the firm. He believes that teamwork, including assigning tasks to the right lawyers at the right levels, is key in achieving the best result for his clients.

In his down time Jeremy enjoys spending time with his family, on the golf course, planning his next trip, or enjoying the outdoors while camping, hiking, backpacking, hunting, and fishing.
