Jeff came to trial work from an academic background. Before law school he earned a Ph.D. in philosophy from the University of California, San Diego, and taught ethics, legal philosophy, and logic at several universities, including the University of Richmond. He brings that training to his practice: the disciplined analysis of hard questions and the ability to make a complicated argument clear. He graduated from William & Mary Law School in 2012, where he served as Senior Articles Editor of the William & Mary Environmental Law and Policy Review and earned academic awards for excellence in legal research, analysis, and trial practice. During law school he worked with a United States Magistrate Judge in the Eastern District of Virginia in Richmond.
At CGBB, Jeff heads the firm’s legal research and analysis. The firm’s methodical approach to every case draws on the research and briefing he handles day to day, and he has been a valued member of the trial team on complex, high-stakes matters. He joined the firm in 2013, became an associate in 2014, and was named a partner on January 1, 2024.
Jeff has begun to earn peer recognition as his trial practice has grown. He was named to the Virginia Super Lawyers Rising Stars list in 2022, a peer designation limited to a small percentage of attorneys in the Commonwealth, and in 2026 he was recognized for the first time in The Best Lawyers in America for Personal Injury Litigation and Product Liability Litigation on the plaintiffs’ side.
