Jeffrey Bergman is the Managing Partner of the Houston office of Osha Bergman Watanabe & Burton LLP. He has more than 25 years of experience representing clients in intellectual property matters, including Patent Law and Litigation - Patent. His practice focuses on helping companies protect and manage intellectual property assets across a broad range of technologies and industries.
Mr. Bergman’s work includes domestic and international patent prosecution, patent portfolio management, intellectual property counseling, licensing, patent litigation support, and validity and infringement analyses. He advises clients in matters involving chemistry, materials science, and mechanical engineering, with substantial experience related to oilfield technologies, specialty chemicals, polymers, nanotechnology, semiconductor fabrication, and software technologies.
He has prepared and prosecuted hundreds of U.S. patent applications involving technologies such as organic and inorganic chemistry, polymer science, ion exchange systems, materials development, mechanical engineering, subterranean drilling, oilfield services, semiconductor packaging, and computer software. Mr. Bergman also works with foreign counsel on international patent matters and assists clients with strategies for protecting intellectual property in the United States and abroad.
In addition to patent prosecution, Mr. Bergman represents clients in proceedings before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office, including appeals, reexamination proceedings, reissue proceedings, and Inter Partes Review proceedings. He has also participated in Federal Circuit appeals and litigation matters involving oilfield and chemical technologies.
Mr. Bergman counsels clients regarding freedom-to-operate analyses, invalidity positions, and non-infringement opinions. He has presented on U.S. patent law and practice to businesses and legal professionals throughout Europe and Asia.
IAM Patent 1000 recognized Mr. Bergman in its 2020 edition of The World’s Leading Patent Professionals, noting his experience prosecuting patents across numerous technical disciplines and industry sectors.
