Jeffrey B. Bloom is a nationally recognized trial attorney with over four decades of experience representing plaintiffs in complex medical malpractice and personal injury claims. Since joining Gair, Gair, Conason, Rubinowitz, Bloom, Hershenhorn, Steigman & Mackauf in 1979, Mr. Bloom has secured numerous multi-million-dollar verdicts and settlements, earning a reputation as one of New York’s most formidable advocates.

Mr. Bloom’s case results include a $120 million jury verdict in a medical malpractice action against Westchester Medical Center—the largest medical malpractice verdict in New York State history. He also served as lead counsel in the highly publicized wrongful death case on behalf of the Estate of Joan Rivers. His extensive litigation record includes recoveries of $15.6 million for lap-band surgery malpractice, $9.2 million for the delayed treatment of a bowel obstruction, and $8 million for complications following colon surgery.

He has successfully handled cases involving failure to diagnose cancer, negligent surgical and obstetrical care, birth injuries including brain damage and Erb’s palsy, and catastrophic injuries due to faulty medical treatment. In addition to his work in medical negligence, he has litigated product liability and premises liability cases, including a wrongful death action stemming from a building collapse and a fire-related fatality caused by a defective vehicle design.

A recognized leader in both the courtroom and the legal community, Mr. Bloom is Co-Chair of the Medical Malpractice Committee and LAWPAC for the New York State Trial Lawyers Association. He played a central role in the successful passage of Lavern’s Law, a landmark 2018 statute that reformed the statute of limitations in medical malpractice cases involving cancer diagnoses.

Mr. Bloom has been consistently recognized by Best Lawyers in America, New York Magazine, and Super Lawyers. He is also a Fellow of the International Academy of Trial Lawyers, which limits its exclusive membership to just 500 attorneys nationwide.

In addition to his litigation practice, Mr. Bloom lectures extensively throughout New York State. He has presented programs for the New York State Bar Association and the New York State Judicial Institute, educating attorneys and judges alike on topics ranging from anatomy for lawyers to cancer misdiagnosis and women’s health issues in malpractice litigation.
