Born in Mobile, Alabama, Jeff Mitchell earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration from Louisiana State University in 1985. He went on to receive his Juris Doctor from Louisiana State University’s Paul M. Hebert School of Law in 1989. Mr. Mitchell has devoted his legal practice to representing plaintiffs, with a primary focus on Medical Malpractice Law and Traumatic Brain Injury claims. He is among a small group of attorneys in Louisiana who are Board Certified in Medical Malpractice by the American Board of Professional Liability Attorneys. In addition, his practice includes automobile accidents, products liability, premises liability, and maritime law.
Mr. Mitchell has been recognized by national legal publications for his work in medical malpractice litigation. He was featured in the April 23, 2012 edition of Newsweek Magazine as part of a nationwide selection of attorneys practicing in medical malpractice law. He was also selected for inclusion in multiple editions of The Best Lawyers in America from 2012 through 2019, a distinction based on peer review by attorneys across the country. Additionally, Mr. Mitchell was named to Louisiana Super Lawyers during this period in the area of medical malpractice, an honor awarded to a limited percentage of attorneys statewide.
Mr. Mitchell practices with Cochran Firm New Orleans LLC in Metairie, Louisiana. The firm’s Metairie office received Litigator Awards from 2014 through 2016, which are based on verdict and settlement amounts in civil litigation. Mr. Mitchell was selected by the firm’s founder to serve as Chairman of the Medical Malpractice Section of The Cochran Firm and has also served as President of the National Brain Injury Trial Lawyers. He has authored numerous articles and regularly lectures at legal seminars on medical malpractice law and traumatic brain injury litigation.
