Jason is a Member of the firm's Government Relations team, with more than 10 years of experience collaborating with officials in the Maryland government.
Before joining the firm, Jason served as a strategic advisor to Speaker Adrienne A. Jones and her predecessor, Speaker Michael E. Busch. Through this role, he gained a solid understanding of the legislative process at the highest level.
From 2012 to 2020, Jason was the Senior Legislative Counsel. He worked with the Speaker and House of Delegates’ leadership on various complex and significant pieces of legislation, focusing on tax, gaming, procurement, energy, business, and economic development issues. He was one of the few staff members who managed legislation on the floor of the House.
Jason is recognized for his careful approach to addressing complicated legislative issues. He builds strong relationships within both the legislative and executive branches of government. He has worked closely with trade groups representing banks, residential property owners, thoroughbred horsemen, builders, insurers, and companies in energy, healthcare, and cannabis.
Over the years, Jason has given strategic legal and political advice on several important pieces of legislation. This includes the Racing and Community Development Act of 2020 and various statewide frameworks for gaming expansion. He has drafted significant parts of the tax code and has a thorough understanding of the State’s business tax credit and incentive programs. As Senior Legislative Counsel, Jason worked closely with legislative leaders and their teams while also building strong relationships with senior staff in the Maryland Senate and the Governor’s Office.
